Brown Town

Interested in knowing the identity of that lovely pixellated broad? It shall remain a mystery.
This poster frist appeared on my flickr stream, and it is easily the most popular item on my photostream. Rightfully so, in my mind. It may be the best poster I've ever created. The technique was tedious, but it's ultimately not that complicated. I'm not telling, though.

FW: Announcing ....2009 Best of Beauty Gallery Winners

Durso Design is excited to hear that Halo Campaign was one of 13 winners of P&G’s 2009 Best of Beauty Gallery (out of 200 submissions)

A word from the Best of Beauty Gallery team

Dear Beauty & Grooming Marketers,

We are delighted to announce the winning visuals for the 2009 Best of Beauty Gallery! The thirteen visuals (listed below) represent the best of our Beauty & Grooming visualization work and were selected from over 200 submissions across categories and regions.

Per our tradition, they are displayed in the East and West hallways of the third floor at the Cincinnati GO. For those of you at the Cincinnati GO, we encourage you to take some time over the next few weeks to visit the Gallery and appreciate their engaging, bold and inspiring beauty. For those of you who do not work at the Cincinnati GO, we hope you will take a moment to visit the Gallery next time you are here. In addition, all winners and finalists will receive a congratulatory letter from Gina Drosos, PBC President and Executive Sponsor of the Best of Beauty Gallery.

Congratulations to the winners and thank you to all who submitted visuals for consideration. The choice, as always, was difficult given the growing number of exceptional visual submissions we receive every year. They are a testament to the talent of our people and agency partners around the world.

Kind Regards,
Michael Kuremsky
For the Best of Beauty Gallery team

Tom Tor Visitor Exhibition

The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eye. - Marcel Proust

Maps of every variety possess a certain mystical allure to inspire wanderlust in the map-reader, unfolding expanses of unexplored territory and holding forth the promise of limitless possibility. The visitor who attempts the venture into myriad realms depicted in Tom Tor's captivating collection, however, will travel beyond city walls and national boundaries and historical ideologies, the evolution of cultural consciousness, and the global degeneration of social utopian visions.

Helvetica A Documentary Film by Gary Hustwit

Helvetica is a feature-length independent film about typography, graphic design and global visual culture. It looks at the proliferation of one typeface (which is celebrating its 50th birthday this year) as part of a larger conversation about the way type affects our lives. Helvetica will begin screening at film festivals worldwide starting in March, followed by cinema screenings across the US and Europe, and the DVD release. More about the film...

Filmmaker Blog Now Online - Director Gary Hustwit will be posting film updates, outtake footage, pretty photos, and random news items throughout the 2007 screening tour on the Helvetica blog. Read on.

Video Clips Are Up - we've uploaded a few Quicktime videos from Helvetica on the Clips page. It's tough to get the feel for a 85-minute feature film in a few minutes, but hopefully these will give you a taste. We've put up a snippet of our interview with Dutch design legend Wim Crouwel, a beautiful piece of footage from the streets of Berlin that segues into part of Erik Spiekermann's profile, a few minutes with Amsterdam designers Experimental Jetset, and a clip featuring Neville Brody and Rick Poynor discussing type's subliminal influence.

Lights, Camera, Helvetica. Steven Heller interviews director Gary Hustwit about the film for AIGA Voice.
